Jono Naylor marks Anzac centenary
Jono Naylor has encouraged people in Palmerston North to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Gallipoli landing.
‘Anzac Day is a time to honour and remember the bravery and determination of the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli. Their strength in adversity remains an ongoing source of pride for New Zealanders and Australians,’ says Jono Naylor.
‘Each year Anzac services are attended by more and more New Zealanders and this year holds a special significance. This year I’ll be attending the dawn service in The Square to honour the sacrifices of the men and women from Manawatu.
‘The events at Gallipoli not only forged our national identity but it was the start of an enduring relationship with our Australian counterparts, which was built on a shared experience in pursuit of peace.
‘I encourage everyone to go along to the dawn service at Palmerston North. It is a good opportunity to honour the more than 300,000 men and women who have served and continue to serve in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations for New Zealand’ says Jono Naylor.
The Palmerston North Dawn Service will be held in The Square at 6am. The Civic Service will be held at The Cenotaph, in The Square at 9:15am.
Centenary commemorations will begin with the official opening of the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington on the 18th April.
