New Zealand First Announces New List Member of Parliament

New Zealand First is pleased to announce that Ms Ria Bond will become a list Member of Parliament for New Zealand First.

With the New Zealand First Leader now the Member of Parliament for Northland the next available New Zealand First list nominee becomes an MP and is based in Invercargill, Southland.

A number of electoral and legal requirements had to be addressed before any official announcement could be made and this process is now being completed, says Mr Peters.

“Ms Bond has a business background and experience as a mediator and spokesperson. For six years she served as president of the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers, representing 8000 owners and operators. She also had a dual role as a director on the Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation, which included being an NZQA governance and advisory panel member.

“She has long held an interest in community issues, and is an active member of Rotary and has served on New Zealand First’s board.

“Ms Bond coming from Southland has seen at first hand the regional neglect by Wellington with communities losing their capacity to make workable decisions at a local level.

“We are confident she will devote herself to advancing the concerns of Southlanders, and those issues which need to be addressed, if there is to be an improvement in the lives of Southlanders, whether it be people here trying to get jobs, raise families, and live useful lives and not being forgotten by Wellington,” says Mr Peters.
