MP welcomes rise in ECE participation in Palmerston North
National MP Jono Naylor has welcomed
the recent data of Early Childhood Education participation
which shows an increase in ECE participation in Palmerston
North.
“Early Childhood Education is an important development tool” Jono Naylor said.
“We know that when a child gets access to good quality early childhood education it helps that child throughout their schooling and beyond.
Total weekly hours for children attending ECE in Palmerston North are now 22.9 hours. The weekly hours has increased each year.
Enrolments in ECE in Palmerston North have increased from 3,253 in 2008 to 3,781 in 2013. Over the same period Pasifika enrolments increased from 145 to 204. Māori enrolments increased from 705 to 914.
“This government is committed to increasing education opportunities for all children especially lifting Māori and Pasifika participation.
“The number of hours per week children attend ECE has been steadily increasing in Palmerston North.” Naylor said.
