State-Owned Enterprises Pushed Too Hard
State-Owned Enterprises should be allowed to uphold their social responsibility to have regard for the interests of the community, says New Zealand First.
“Instead, the National Government has pushed SOEs to perform to the extent that they have neglected an important objective,” says New Zealand First State-Owned Enterprises Spokesperson Richard Prosser. “As a result communities suffer.”
“The latest job cuts at Solid Energy’s Stockton Mine on the West Coast are the result of government economic mismanagement and the extreme profit-before-people mentality.
“To make amends the government could better use the $25 million set aside for flag referendums to support the people of the regions where jobs losses like this are too frequent.”
