Kiwis Desperate for Bowel Cancer Screening Roll-Out
Bowel cancer screening does not need more trial funding – it needs a national roll-out, says New Zealand First.
“The government’s decision to fund only an extension to the bowel cancer screening trial is weak and irresponsible,” says Spokesperson for Health Barbara Stewart.
“This is a missed opportunity to invest in a long-term, preventative measure to save New Zealanders lives.
“Bowel cancer kills 1200 New Zealanders every year. The trial screening programme being run by Waitemata DHB since 2012 has already saved 249 lives.
“How many more New Zealanders will have to die before the government takes real action against bowel cancer?”
