Too Much Pressure on Parents of
Parents caring for disabled children are getting no empathy from National as it puts pressure on them to find jobs, says New Zealand First.
“These parents already have the full-time job of raising children with disabilities, but because they receive government support they face strict job seeking obligations,” says Spokesperson for Disability Issues Barbara Stewart.
“Budget 2015 completely ignored parents of disabled children who receive Supported Living Payments.
“They are on call day and night which makes the obligations for work neither practical nor fair.
“The government should apply discretion. Money allocated to educational support for children with disabilities will be wasted unless they have a strong and flexible home environment.
“Allowing the needs of the child to prevail is just common sense,” says Mrs Stewart.
