Bishop welcomes improved Hutt Valley health results

National List MP based in the Hutt Valley Chris Bishop says the latest National Health results show the Hutt Valley’s frontline health services continue to improve.

The latest results for quarter two of the 2014/15 year show that:

· 95 per cent of patients in the Hutt Valley DHB were admitted, discharged or transferred from ED within six hours – up from 90 per cent in the previous quarter
· 474 more elective surgeries than planned have been performed by Hutt Valley DHB in the first 9 months of the 2014/15 year.
· 95 per cent of eight month olds have been fully immunised, meeting the national target of 95 per cent.
· 86 per cent of the eligible population have had their cardiovascular risk assessed in the last five years – up 1.3 per cent from last quarter

Across New Zealand the shorter stays in emergency department target has been met for the first time. Over 250,000 patients were admitted, discharged or transferred from an emergency department within six hours, a great result.

The National Health targets are a set of national performance measures designed to improve the performance of health services across New Zealand. Three of the six health targets focus on patient access, and three focus on prevention.

“It’s great to see that more people are receiving prompt care at Hutt Hospital’s emergency department and that elective surgeries are continuing ahead of target,” says Mr Bishop.

“One of National’s priorities is to deliver better public services, and health services are among the most important to New Zealand families. The latest quarterly results show we are making real improvements for patients and their families,” says Mr Bishop.

Health received another boost in Budget 2015 with overall spending increasing to $15.9 billion in the coming year.
