Quake Outcasts Suffer More Government Ineptitude

New Zealand First supports the outcry from the Quake Outcasts group in Christchurch against further delay by CERA and the government over claims for full compensation.

“The Quake Outcasts group represents owners of uninsured or bare land properties in Christchurch who were only offered 50 per cent of the 2007 rating valuation,” says Spokesperson for Earthquake Issues Denis O’Rourke.

“The Supreme Court ruled that the whole red zoning process was completely unlawful because it did not consult with affected residents before the announcement of the zoning decision.

“Now the government is further delaying the consultation process to try to rectify the fact that the process it initiated is completely wrong and is in conflict with the Supreme Court ruling.

“The government has known that it needs to pay 100 per cent compensation.

“The revamped consultation process is really just a public relations exercise in an attempt to legitimise unlawful policies. But nobody is fooled. Incompetence on this scale cannot be hidden,” says Mr O’Rourke.
