Southland Wins as Dairy Hub Gets Go
Ahead
The green light for the Southern Dairy Hub
is exciting for Southland, says New Zealand First.
“As New Zealand has a diversity of soils, rainfall and growing conditions, the hub will enable Southland specific solutions to be developed, says Primary Industry spokesperson Richard Prosser. “A farm that focuses on research makes common sense given about 11 per cent of the nation’s milking cows are in Southland.
New Zealand First’s Invercargill based Member of Parliament Ria Bond says the way farmers chipped into the Hub shows their long term confidence in dairying, despite some difficult times at present.
She says she learned more about the hub at the Southland Federated Farmers AGM and says she looks forward to visiting the research farm as it is developed.
“New Zealand First embraces farming, forestry and fisheries. The productivity is astounding and science will be to the fore at the Hub given the involvement of DairyNZ and AgResearch.
