National to Put State Houses And Taxpayer Dollars in
Overseas Hands
The National Government is giving
up on state housing, says New Zealand First Leader and
Member of Parliament for Northland Rt Hon Winston
Peters.
“National’s policy shifts are nothing but a
clearing house for state housing. It is dispensing with yet
another taxpayer built and state-owned asset and has no
qualms about putting Kiwi tenants under the control of an
overseas landlord under any guise.
“It has already
downsized the number of houses, and now it proposes to put
state housing ownership in the hands of an Australian
organisation (Horizon Housing), or lease to them or private
interests,” as revealed by TV3 today.
“The government
never mentioned that it was willing to sacrifice our assets
to foreign buyers.
“The effect of Australian ownership
is that the New Zealand taxpayer will be subsidising the
tenancies with money normally going to the state now going
to Australia or private interests.
“The government’s
policy on housing would be farcical if it was not so
serious,” says Mr
Peters.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
