Capital Connection decision a win for Palmerston North
Palmerston North MP Iain Lees-Galloway is delighted with the decision by KiwiRail to continue operating the Capital Connection for another three years.
“This is a significant win for our community and for our region.
“When I first started arguing in favour of keeping the Capital Connection in January 2010 I had no idea that it would take five and a half years to get this decision.
“Over that time more and more people have become involved in the campaign and today’s announcement is the result of enormous effort by a passionate, capable and committed group of people who have put in an astonishing amount of time and effort.
“I want to thank everyone who has been part of this decision: Horizons and Greater Wellington Regional Councils, KiwiRail, the passengers, the supporters and Transport Minister Simon Bridges.
“Regional public transport is important. It gives people options and it keeps people connected. Today is not just a victory for supporters of the Capital Connection. It’s a victory for everyone who believes commuter rail is a vital component of a high quality transport network.”
