Park the Cycleways, Fix the Gorge First
Cycleways are great to have, but first the Gorge road must be fixed, says Palmerston North based New Zealand First MP Darroch Ball.
“While $6.2 million is being injected into cycle ways in our area, essential work on roading is being neglected.
“Minister of Transport Simon Bridges is too timid to stand up for fixing the Gorge as he knows cycle ways are the Prime Minister’s pet project. In Parliament today he couldn’t even decide for himself where he thought the spending should go.
“Of course we would welcome the cycle way in due course, but with nearly $20 million being spent on slips in the last 5 years alone, surely it’s time to put the investment into a permanent solution and get rid of the persistent problems that hit the Gorge, a major artery to our region.
“The Minister has shown no commitment to addressing the needs of the Manawatu Gorge. Announcing cycle ways seems completely out of touch with what our region needs,” says Mr Ball.
“Its obvious the Minister’s priorities for our Manawatu region are way out of touch.”
