New Zealand First Asks Government to Adopt Its Farm Debt Bill
New Zealand First Deputy Leader and Wairarapa list MP, Ron Mark, says New Zealand First’s Receiverships (Agricultural Debt Mediation) Amendment Bill should be adopted as a Government Bill.
“With ANZ cutting its predicted milkprice for the current 2015/16 season to just $4.50 per kilogram of milksolids, we are concerned about losing a generation of farmers and the government should to,” says Mr Mark.
“We are talking about families affected by events beyond their control, namely China’s economy unwinding and the economic cold war between Russia and the EU.
“New Zealand First has a solution in our Farm Debt Mediation Bill, a bill that could significantly change how receivership works. The Reserve Bank’s Financial Stability report reveals that about 1,200 dairy farmers are at risk owing nearly $10 billion.
“Our Bill is about correcting the power imbalance with the big banks.
“New Zealand First would be happy to get this Bill enacted quickly. We offer to work with the Government to get it adopted as a Government Bill,” says Mr Mark.
