Calling for a Fair Go for Kiwi Sports Fans

Sports fans are being shut out of live coverage of the All Blacks-Manu Samoa game today for no sound reason, says New Zealand First Leader and Member of Parliament for Northland Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“It’s the same with all New Zealand sport – sports fans must pay for Sky or wait till the match is nearly over to watch.

“New Zealand First would like to see a channel run by state-owned Television New Zealand for all the big sports games and matches involving New Zealand.

“It’s terrific that we can now watch Wimbledon on a pop-up channel, so why isn’t the state broadcaster giving full coverage of all major sports?

“It is time to get this sorted before the Rugby World Cup.

“Not everyone has the extra money to subscribe to a TV channel. It’s unfair to make them do so.

“What is the point of having a state channel, which taxpayers pay for, if it does not give generous coverage of the sport that so many Kiwis like to follow?” says Mr Peters.
