Wellington to host British & Irish Lions in 2017
The announcement of the All Blacks
2016/2017 home schedules shows Wellington will host the
British & Irish Lions.
“The NZ Lions 2017 Series is another opportunity to demonstrate New Zealand’s ability to host major sporting events following the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup and 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup,” says National List MP based in Wellington Central, Paul Foster-Bell.
“Wellington will host two games, including a mid-week game against the Hurricanes and the second Test Match on July 1. I’m delighted that Wellington will have yet another chance to show why it is the hospitality capital of New Zealand.
“More than 20,000 Lions supporters visited in 2005 and the 2017 tour is expected to attract a similar number of people which will be good for Wellington businesses and tourist operators.
“I encourage everyone in Wellington to take advantage of this great event. I’m sure it will be just as exciting as in 2005,” says Foster-Bell.
The Lions will play ten matches in Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Further details, including ticket information, should be announced towards the end of the year.
