No Call to Change the Anthem

Rt Hon Winston Peters
New Zealand First Leader
Member of Parliament for Northland
30 JULY 2015

No Call to Change the Anthem

Prime Minister John Key is wrong to suggest New Zealand First made a call to change the New Zealand anthem – we did no such thing.

"But we do respect honest opinions.

"When approached by a reporter yesterday I gave my honest personal opinion that the Labour leader Andrew Little was on some sound ground in describing the anthem as a 'dirge'. That's the end of it.

"Other people will have a different personal view and I respect that."
