Remembering Niue’s Sacrifice During Language Week

Celebrating Niue Language Week provides an opportunity to honour the sacrifices made by Niue in support of New Zealand during World War One, says New Zealand First.

“Niue responded within hours of the declaration of war, pledging support for New Zealand and the allied forces. There is no better time to recognise and reflect on this sacrifice than during Niuean Language Week,” says Spokesperson for Pacific Island Affairs Pita Paraone.

“New Zealand’s vibrant Niuean community is currently 24,000 strong. It is important to support them in keeping the Niuean language alive amongst future generations”.

“New Zealand First encourages all New Zealanders to make an effort to embrace the Niuean language this week,” says Mr Paraone. “Kia monuina.”
