Alternative Flag Options Must Not Fly on Council Buildings

New Zealand First says only the legitimate New Zealand Flag should fly on council buildings – any other flag is not the official flag of New Zealand.

“Packs of flags have been sent to councils by the Flag Consideration Panel, but if any council republicanist mayor wants to be a part of the government’s flag propaganda, then they should choose a park and fly them there,” says New Zealand First Spokesperson for Veteran’s Affairs Ron Mark.

“Do not fly those logos on official public buildings when those buildings have been built and paid for by the sacrifices of ratepayers who over generations have served under our current national flag in theatres of war and seen their mates laid to rest under it.

“The thought of any one of these corporate logos replacing our flag is an affront to veterans and the families of veterans. It’s also an affront to the seven out of 10 taxpayers who oppose this $2 million-plus waste of their money.

“Of course, this is being pushed by Minister of Culture and Heritage Maggie Barry, who is a big fan of changing the New Zealand flag. She is also Minister of Senior Citizens, but this is hardly what they want.

“We ask councils to respect the wishes of Veterans and the overwhelming majority of ratepayers and only fly the New Zealand Flag on public buildings to respect those who fought under it.

“In particular they should not fly those National Government flag options on public buildings on any of the following dates”, says Mr Mark.
