MP congratulates Youth Fund 2016 recipient

Maungakiekie MP Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga has congratulated Vagahau Niue Trust on being granted $3000 through Youth Fund 2016 to deliver its youth-driven project in Mt Wellington.

“I am delighted Vagahau Niue Trust has been awarded funding to make the Niue Youth Network Fono a reality.

“The people involved have shown tremendous initiative and their work will be good for our community,” Mr Lotu-Iiga says.

Vagahau Niue Trust will receive the funding to engage Niuean young people in discussion about what it means to be a Niuean youth living in Auckland to inform a youth strategy and strengthen identity among young people.

“We have many outstanding young people in our community and Youth Fund 2016 supports activities that develop their decision-making and leadership skills,” Mr Lotu-Iiga says.

The 50 successful applicants of the 2016 Youth Fund will receive a total of $217,000 to fund projects supporting young people.

The Youth Fund initiative is for projects that respond to a need in the community as identified by youth. Projects are led by individuals, or groups of young people aged 12 to 24, or organisations working in partnership with young people.
