House prices continue to rise in Auckland and in the regions, yet the government is doing nothing about over 2,400 people arriving weekly which is contributing to housing demand, says New Zealand First.
“National continues to hold the door wide open to the world, without a thought for the consequences for ordinary New Zealanders trying to buy their first home or rent a house,” says New Zealand First Leader and Member of Parliament for Northland Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Statistics today show immigration at record levels, for the 16th consecutive month. There was a net gain of 63,700 migrants in the November 2015 year, up from 43,500 in 2014.
“Immigration in the year set a new high at 120,900.
“National is hell bent on the masses arriving, relying on consumption to prop up the economy but Kiwis are paying the price with hospitals, schools and all public services being stretched.”
