Flag Flying Blues Hit Key’s Campaign
The washed out shade of blue of John Key’s favoured flag flying on the Auckland Harbour Bridge shows they cannot even get the colour right, says New Zealand First.
“It’s a pale, wishy washy blue that doesn’t match the deeper blue that was agreed upon by the Flag Consultation Panel, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament, Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“The flag that is flying does not represent what people voted for.
“It’s just another example of how shonky the Government’s flag campaign is.
“It is unfortunate also that one of our largest media organisations, NZME, which is Australian owned, is driving the push to change our flag.
“They’re in bed with John Key over this and you wonder just how independent they are.
“The Weekend Herald came up with the idea of flying the Key flag on the harbour bridge next to our national flag and the government obliged.
“In last weekend’s paper the Weekend Herald said: ‘We asked, and the government delivered.’
“That’s how cosy the relationship is between our government and one of the main media organisations in New Zealand.
“At least sanity prevailed through the Speaker David Carter refusing to let Mr Key fly the alternative flag outside the Beehive.”
