Coasters’ lives are at risk in Grey Base Hospital, which
is unsafe, yet the government continues to drag the chain on
its redevelopment, says New Zealand First.
“In its
current state Grey Base Hospital is only 16 per cent safe if
an earthquake hits, yet the government continues to ask
staff and patients to work in this hospital,” says Health
Spokesperson Barbara Stewart.
“The hospital’s
redevelopment was meant to be finished by the end of this
year but now construction won’t be completed until
2018.
“The government puts the delay down to the project
going over budget by two per cent.
“This is a
disgraceful decision by government to prioritise a bottom
line ahead of the safety of New Zealanders,” says Mrs
Stewart.
