Crowe’s Courage And Class Will Be Remembered - Peters
Martin Crowe won the admiration of New Zealand not just for his wonderful cricketing prowess but also for his courageous battle with cancer, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“While he is acknowledged as being
New Zealand’s greatest batsman, to younger generations of
Kiwis he will be remembered as being an astute commentator
and writer on the game he graced and for his courage after
being diagnosed in September 2014 with terminal
lymphoma.
“Martin Crowe won fame throughout the cricketing world for his elegant stylish batting and when he was named New Zealand Sportsman of the Year in 1991 he was a worthy winner.
“Many Kiwis will remember his finest innings that same year when he came agonisingly close to becoming the first New Zealander to a triple century when he scored 299.
“His brilliant leadership of the New Zealand team at the 1992 World Cup here on home soil will also be long remembered.
“New Zealand First offers its condolences to Mr Crowe’s family and loved ones.”
