Parental leave changes a big win for pre-term parents

Parental leave changes a big win for pre-term parents

Press release: ACT New Zealand
April 1, 2016. 10:30am

Today changes to paid parental leave negotiated by ACT come into effect. Parents of pre-term babies will receive additional weekly payments for each week the baby is born before the end of the 37-week gestation period.

“Having a pre-term baby is a completely unforeseeable circumstance,” says ACT Leader David Seymour. “Parents in this situation deserve the security of government assistance. Today’s change will bring real relief to these parents.

“ACT believes parents should have kids when they can afford it, which is why we promote specifically targeting welfare payments to those in genuine unexpected need. Today’s change is victory for that principle.”
