PM No.1 in Selling Off Our Houses And Land
Prime Minister John Key is the country’s number one salesman, not of exports, but of our land and property, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“He’s made Kiwis tenants in our own country by opening the floodgates for residence and speculation, yet he warned of it in Opposition.
“He dog whistles to feign concern because he just doesn’t believe there’s a foreign ownership crisis.
“The latest is a land tax, coming just a few days after he told the media in China he would speed up Overseas Investment Office processes.
“Mr Key refused to set up a register of foreign property purchases, as the Australians did, and introduced IRD and bank account requirements that you could drive a bus through.
“On this matter of land and house ownership going to foreign hands he has done worse than nothing. He’s denied it whilst there’s been an explosion of offshore purchases.”
