Congratulations to new Children’s Commissioner

Congratulations to new Children’s Commissioner

The Green Party congratulates Andrew Becroft for his appointment as the new Children’s Commissioner for New Zealand.

“Andrew Becroft has been a brave champion for children, young people and for their right to justice and it’s exciting to hear he has accepted this role as Children’s Commissioner,” Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei said today.

“This is a fantastic appointment for the children of New Zealand, and for the office of the Children’s Commissioner.

“Andrew Becroft has made a career out of standing up for children and challenging the system to do better by them.

“As a Youth Court Judge, Andrew Becroft has seen the consequences of poverty, neglect, and inequality and, even in his position as a judge, was working towards the solutions.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank Russell Wills for his tireless advocacy for children and especially his brave work to tackle child poverty and cause others to care enough to act.

“I look forward to hearing what Andrew Becroft has to say about the huge challenges facing the nation’s young people, and the contribution he has to make as our new Children’s Commissioner,” Mrs Turei said.
