The government
is desperately trying to dig itself out of responsibility
for allowing the run down of Kiwi Rail, says New Zealand
First.
“Transport Minister Simon Bridges claimed in
Parliament today the government is spending billions on
rail, but he failed to admit that it was National that sold
it,” says Transport Spokesperson Denis O’Rourke.
“In
the hands of private corporations it was decimated to the
extent that its tracks, tunnels and bridges and wagons are
all in need of investment.
“Unless that happens KiwiRail
will not be able to compete for the expected growth in
freight around the country - since 2000 road freight has
increased 60 per cent.
“Mr Bridges conveniently skipped
around a question on expanding and improving rail.
“That
begs the government – just how committed is this
government to a sustainable railway network for New
Zealand?”

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
