Truck Driver Training Urgently Needed
When will the government accept that specialist log truck driver training is urgently needed, says New Zealand First.
“Yet another logging truck accident is yet another reminder that there is a problem,” says Northland MP and New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“It can be fixed, but not when a government sits idly beside the roadside.
“These rigs are going to keep toppling over, and the drivers, and anyone nearby, won’t always escape unhurt. Let’s get specialist training underway and at the same time put more funding into improving the roads.
“The latest crash in Otaika Valley Rd, Maungatapere, in the early morning required the attendance of two fire trucks.
“The cost of every one of these accidents is huge and another reason to take practical action.
“There are many problems in Northland stemming from neglect but this is one that can be more easily solved. Let’s get started.”
