Police burning $2m a month on ‘new Novopay’
A five month delay in the Police’s new HR system is costing $2m a month and the full cost has now blown out by millions of dollars – at a time when police are underfunded by $300m, says Labour’s Police spokesman Stuart Nash.
“Information obtained by Labour under the OIA shows the new Police HR system was meant to go live in April but is now being pushed back until September. Each month that the system remains on the shelf it costs $2m. Its full cost is now projected at $64m.
“In documents the Police are literally asking themselves the question: ‘Is the payroll system going to be another Novopay?’ That shows they don’t have confidence in the system.
“With Police already being underfunded by $300m and resolution rates falling, Police can’t afford to burn $2m a month. The Minister must explain to New Zealanders how this botch-up occurred and how much it will cost the taxpayer,” says Stuart Nash.
