A Senseless Addition To Gold Hop Card Mess

Rt Hon Winston Peters

New Zealand First Leader

Member of Parliament for Northland
22 JUNE 2016

A Senseless Addition To Gold Hop Card Mess

New Zealand First is concerned that foreign identity cards from overseas countries can be used to get an Auckland Transport Gold HOP card, says New Zealand First.

“Auckland Transport has gone back on its requirement for photo ID, and has put out a list of 15 items that can be selected to prove identity – a SuperGold Cardholder only needs to choose two,” says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“The SuperGold Card is a New Zealand card to benefit New Zealand seniors. There’s no way a foreign ID card is needed or should be used.

“We have no way of checking the validity of many of these national ID cards many of which, from past experience, will be false and worthless for true identity purposes.

“If applicants cannot come up with two of the 14 other New Zealand options then they simply won’t be eligible.

“This is just another blunder in a long drawn disaster of trying to dump the SuperGold Card for a HOP card.

“This mess has caused widespread confusion for Auckland seniors who were told they would have off-peak free travel with their SuperGold Card and now they have to pay to get a HOP card,” Mr Peters says.
