Rebstock report into MFAT leaks a disgrace
An Ombudsman’s report on the Paul Rebstock investigation into MFAT leaks shows the two diplomats at the centre of the case were treated disgracefully, says Labour’s State Services spokesperson Kris Faafoi.
“The Ombudsman says one of the diplomats Derek Leask was not responsible for the leak and as a consequence of the Rebstock report he suffered unwarranted and adverse personal and financial consequences.
“It’s clear the State Services Commission acted unreasonably during the inquiry. Talk of multiple flaws in the findings make disturbing reading.
“Further the finding that the inquiry exceeded its terms of reference and the fact that it ignored highly relevant evidence paints a picture of a kangaroo court.
“The State Services Commission now has to issue a public apology for Mr Leask who will be reimbursed for the damage to his reputation.
“The Government now has to change the way it investigates senior Government officials so there is fairness in the process and this never happens again,” says Kris Faafoi.
