Public Money Helping Skycity Achieve Huge Profit
SkyCity is rolling in the money as their just announced $145.7 million net full-year profit shows, so why has the government been propping up this publicly listed casino company?” says New Zealand First.
“The casino got by far the best end of a backroom deal with the Key government to build an international convention centre and have been laughing their way to the bank ever since,” New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters says.
“It will be another three years at least before a smaller convention centre than what was first planned will open.
“In the meantime, the government has handed SkyCity an extra 230 slot machines, 40 gambling tables, a 27 year concession to their Auckland casino licence and other concessions.
“SkyCity is creaming profits on the backs of the government and New Zealand taxpayer,” says Mr Peters.
