Update on water contamination and gastro outbreak

To all those affected by the gastro outbreak either through sickness, loss of income, worry or stress:

My thoughts are with all those suffering because of this awful gastro outbreak.

It’s been a rough few days and, like many of you, I’ve been boiling and buying water, and looking after my family.

I’ve been keeping up to date on the situation through discussions with the Hastings District Council, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Local Government Minister and Acting Minister of Health Sam Lotu-Iiga, as well as the Prime Minister.

While there are many questions to be answered, the Council, which has responsibility for supplying clean drinking water, is working as fast as possible to ensure the contamination and illness spreads no further. The health of our families, friends and community is paramount.
