Food Safety Law Reform Bill

17 August 2016
Media release – Select Committee Services

Food Safety Law Reform Bill

The Chairperson of the Primary Productions Committee is inviting submissions on this bill. The closing date for submissions isThursday 22 September 2016.

The bill proposes to address the recommendations of the independent Government Inquiry into the Whey Protein Concentrate Contamination Incident that need statute change to implement.

The Inquiry focused solely on the dairy sector. However, the bill would amend all three of the main food safety Acts—the Animal Products Act 1999, the Food Act 2014, and the Wine Act 2003—to ensure the recommended improvements apply across the whole system.

The bill can be viewed online at www.legislation.govt.nz.

Submissions should be forwarded by the closing date, either making a submission online using our website www.parliament.nz (or a direct link at http://bit.ly/2btlZu1), or in writing to the address below. If a submitter wishes to appear before the committee, they need to state this clearly and provide a name, daytime phone number and email address. Submissions generally become public and are published on our website. For further guidance on making a submission, read our publication Making a submission to a Parliamentary Select Committee on our website or contact us at
04 817 9520.

Address for correspondence: Primary Production Committee, Bowen House, Parliament Buildings, WELLINGTON 6160.
