Safer routes for Mt Roskill families
Walking and cycling across the Mt Roskill electorate just got a whole lot safer thanks to a new shared pathway, and National’s candidate Parmjeet Parmar is encouraging families to get out and try it for themselves.
Dr Parmar joined Transport Minister Simon Bridges at an event today officially opening the Mt Roskill Safer Routes project.
The $4.9 million network of widened footpaths and road designs will provide a low traffic, low speed environment for local cyclists and pedestrians. It runs from War Memorial Park, through Keith Hay Park, to Waikowhai Park on the shores of the Manukau Harbour.
“Improving transport in the Mt Roskill electorate is one of the key priorities of my campaign, so it’s fantastic to be here today to celebrate this project,” Dr Parmarsays.
“Families from right around Mt Roskill have been telling me that while they love living in a central part of a big city like Auckland, they wish they could get around safely without having to rely on cars and buses all the time.
“This network is a great example of National’s commitment to walking and cycling infrastructure in Auckland, but there’s still more work to do.
“If I am chosen to be the next electorate MP for Mt Roskill, I’ll push for more connections throughout the area, because I know families in places like Royal Oak, Three Kings, and Epsom want great networks like this too.”
