Bill Skelton Will Be Remembered as a Racing Legend

All New Zealand horseracing fans will mourn the passing of legendary jockey, Bill Skelton, who died this morning, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament, Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“Only three months ago Bill Skelton’s equally famous jockey brother Bob died in Melbourne which makes this passing doubly sad.

“During his career Bill Skelton rode 2179 winners in New Zealand making him the most successful jockey in the country during the 20th Century.

“In 1990 he was inducted into the NZ Sports Hall of Fame and Bob followed him five years later.

“New Zealand First extends its condolences to Mr Skelton’s family,” said Mr Peters, who is also racing spokesperson for New Zealand First.
