NORTHLAND SHORTCHANGED ON POLICING AS BURGLARIES GO UNSOLVED
Northlanders are being shortchanged on police numbers and are taking a hit from burglaries, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Northland holds the unenviable ranking of having the most unsolved burglaries, and the lowest response times of anywhere in the country.
“The answer is simple – more police.
“After New Zealand First said we would have least 1800 new frontline police trained as quickly as possible Police Minister Judith Collins claimed she had been “working on it for quite some time”.
“That was back in August and the country is still waiting.
“Meanwhile, there are an average of 10 burglary victims a day in Northland and most burglaries are unsolved.
“Police resources are stretched, morale is low and people arrive home to chaos and loss of property.
“New Zealand First would increase frontline police and we would add strength with Rural Police support officers.”
