Now with English and Bennett at the helm what does this mean for Auckland? Are critical projects like rail to the Airport and the North Shore more likely to go ahead?
The expected appointment of Steven Joyce as Finance Minister suggests rail projects and public transport may again fall out of favour with the National Party. Joyce, the fierce opponent of the City Rail Link and architect of National's $12 billion motorway programme, will be well positioned to further postpone the expansion of quality public transport in Auckland.
