ACT challenges new broom Judith to drain the corporate
green-washing trough
The $3.5 million handed out via the Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund is simply corporate welfare, says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“The list of subsidised projects makes for stunning reading. The Government is essentially subsidising corporate green-washing.
“If businesses like Foodstuffs, Z Energy, and Green Cabs want to use electric vehicles in their PR campaigns, they should fund that themselves.
“And if a local authority wants to subsidise electric vehicle promotion they should seek a mandate from ratepayers, instead of drinking from the central government trough.
“The good news is that we have a new Energy and Resources Minister. Judith Collins should make her mark on the portfolio by cancelling future application rounds.
“ACT’s view is that corporate welfare funds like this should be scrapped in favour of across-the-board company tax cuts.
“Businesses can most effectively innovate and invest in new technologies when the government cuts taxes and red tape for all, instead of doling out gravy to a select few.”
