ACT calls time on the National-Maori Party fling
ACT calls time on the National-Maori Party fling
ACT will seek to remove onerous iwi consultation requirements from proposed RMA reforms. ACT Leader David Seymour has drafted a Supplementary Order Paper [attached] to make these changes.
“ACT supports comprehensive reform of the Resource Management Act, simplifying consenting and reducing costs for homebuilders.
“Unfortunately, National’s fling with the Maori Party has borne reforms that add cost and complexity via extortionate requirements for councils to consult with iwi when drafting their plans. These provisions will be disastrous for New Zealanders who desperately need more houses built, and fast.
“I look forward to seeing my changes pass with the support of the opposition, who have also highlighted the complexity of the proposed legislation.
“With more MPs after the election, ACT will block Maori Party interference in the RMA and force National to actually cut red tape for housing development.”
ACT will announce further Supplementary Order Papers for the Resource Legislation Amendment Bill tomorrow.
