SAS Claims: Inquiry Needed

New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters says an inquiry must be ordered into allegations made about an SAS raid in Afghanistan in which six civilians were killed.

“The integrity of the servicemen involved is being challenged and these allegations cannot be left to stand without proper investigation.

“It is not good enough for the Prime Minister, Bill English, to say there has already been an inquiry by the Afghan government and Coalition forces.

“What New Zealand must do is appoint a respected and trustworthy individual who the public can have faith in, and get the inquiry under way immediately.

“The inquiry can be held behind closed doors so SAS members are able to give evidence in confidence,” says Mr Peters.

“The claims are made in print and published in the book Hit & Run: The New Zealand SAS in Afghanistan and the meaning of honour.”
