ACT pays tribute to John Key
ACT pays tribute to John Key
ACT Leader David
Seymour has paid tribute to former Prime Minister John Key
on the day he is set to deliver his valedictory
speech.
“John Key’s great political achievement is not so much what he has done, but what he has prevented. He has kept a mob of economic illiterates away from the levers of power, protecting New Zealanders from higher taxes, higher spending, higher interest rates, and a tsunami of dodgy regulations.
“John Key’s remarkable popularity can be owed to the stability he’s provided New Zealand for eight years. When people feel secure about the country’s economy and policy settings they are able to confidently invest in business, themselves, and their families. This sense of confidence has benefited the whole country.
“Mr Key was also distinctive in how he positioned New Zealand as an outward-looking trading nation, embracing foreign investment and the free exchange of good and services. ACT will push Bill English and future Prime Ministers to follow Mr Key’s example in this area.
“As we approach the election, ACT will address the problems John Key’s Government has neglected. But today, we want to thank him for his service to New Zealand.”
