Steven Joyce calls your tax bill a
‘dividend’
“Steven Joyce has today boasted of taking a $3.5 billion
more tax in the first eight months of this year compared to
last,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“He then has the cheek to describe this as a ‘dividend’ for the country. Since when was a tax bill a dividend?
“A government surplus is a taxpayer deficit. The Government is taking more tax than it needs, so it would probably be more appropriate for Steven Joyce to apologise than to boast.
“National is supposed to be the party of low tax, but they’ve strayed far from their roots. The only time they’ve cut tax this century was when they had a strong ACT providing a majority in Parliament.
“A rejuvenated ACT will remind National that tax belongs to the taxpayer, ensuring government surpluses are returned to the people who earned the money in the first place.”
