Waimak MP delighted recommendations show voices heard for third lane southbound
Waimak MP Matt Doocey is delighted the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy Implementation Committee (UDSIC) has recommended construction of a third lane southbound over the Waimak Bridge, subject to conditions, following his petition presentation this morning.
Doocey presented his Waimakariri petition for a third lane southbound to the UDSIC in Christchurch this morning. The petition received over 1000 signatures.
“That the petition received this level of support in such a short period shows how many in our community wanted the Waimak voice to be heard when this decision was made,” Doocey said.
“In supporting the development of our region, we realise decisions made in Christchurch impact Waimakariri. Many of my constituents are frustrated by congestion and unreliable travel times into Christchurch in the mornings. They want to enjoy the full benefits of the Northern Corridor and Western Belfast Bypass major roading projects. A third lane southbound, as part of an integrated traffic solution, will ease traffic flow issues and address the current bottleneck up to Tram Road.
“We have a window of opportunity to have a third lane south included as part of the current motorway works. Doing it now will be at significantly less cost than doing it later,” Doocey said.
The MP said getting the voices of Waimakariri commuters to the discussion was his priority.
