Pay Rise But Why Did National Wait So Long

The National government claims that the wage rise for aged care workers – mostly women – is wonderful, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“Minister of Health Jonathan Coleman says it is “really good” to see “low-paid workers” get the recognition they deserve for their work.

“He knows, he says, because he worked in rest homes.

“So, why did their fight for better pay – from the pitiful $16 they now get – have to go to a legal battle in court and lengthy negotiations with the National government?

“Having been apathetic all the way to the highest court in the land the Minister cannot expect people to believe his PR spin,” says Mr Peters.
