Increased funding for veterans’ groups

Hon Ron Mark

Minister for Veterans

7 December 2017 MEDIA STATEMENT
Increased funding for veterans’ groups

Minister for Veterans Ron Mark has announced that the Government has made a grant of $250,000 to the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association, an increase of $75,000 on last year’s amount.

A separate grant of $20,000 has also been made to the No Duff Charitable Trust. This is the first time a grant has been made to No Duff.

“Both organisations work closely with Veterans’ Affairs and are crucial to providing the right support at the right time to our veterans,” Mr Mark said.

“The RNZRSA funding will be used to improve the delivery of services to veterans, including to the more than 20,000 contemporary Kiwi veterans, and to assist the organisation to professionalise its current delivery model, which is heavily dependent on a volunteer network.

“The first-time grant to No Duff will give a boost to the excellent work they do as a ‘first responder’ for contemporary veterans in critical need,” he said.

“Every New Zealander is in debt to the service of our veterans, wherever they served. They are entitled to the best we can do for them in times of need. This increased support will go a long way to improving the services they receive from these organisations.”
