Ill-prepared Government still short of work
On the first day back in Parliament it’s clear the Government – which was late delivering new bills to the House before Christmas – is still woefully short of legislation, Shadow Leader of the House Simon Bridges says.
“Straight after Question Time today the Government was back where it left off in 2017, essentially filibustering its own work programme by making a Ministerial statement.
“A glance at the Order Paper reveals that after only three first reading debates today the Parliament will be back to debating and progressing legislation introduced by the last Government.
“The paucity of legislation delivered before Christmas led National to believe Ministers and Government staffers would have been busy over the holiday, but it would seem they all went to the beach,” Mr Bridges says.
