More Trustees announced for Cathedral fundraising trust

Hon Dr Megan Woods

Minister of Research, Science and Innovation

MEDIA STATEMENT

A further three Trustees have been appointed to the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust by Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration Megan Woods.

The Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust will lead vital fundraising for the project to reinstate the Cathedral in the centre of Christchurch. It will also partner with the Cathedral’s owners the Church Property Trustees (CPT) to deliver the project.

The three Trustees being announced today are Jenny May, Jo Scott and Mike Williams.

They will join Chair Peter Guthrey, Dr Te Maire Tau, Sarah Sinclair, Dr Ian Lochhead and Tim Carter on the Trust, which held its first meeting last week.

“The Trustees, as a whole, have been chosen for their skills in fundraising, governance, business, communications and/or knowledge and experience in engineering and heritage,” says Dr Woods.

“Now that these three further Trustees have been selected, the Trust can move forward in its establishment work and start on a fundraising strategy for the project. It will also, importantly, work with CPT to agree the terms of the Joint Venture, in order for that to get underway,” says Megan Woods.

About the Trustees:

Jenny May has extensive local and national heritage experience. She was formerly a principal consultant heritage adviser to Christchurch City Council and worked on the conservation and repair of projects such as Mona Vale, the Sign of the Takahe and the Arts Centre of Christchurch. She also has 25 years involvement with the Cathedral community and Anglican Diocese.
