Amazon tax’ should be revenue neutral

“The Government’s commitment to a level playing field for online goods is positive, but its ‘Amazon tax’ must be revenue neutral”, according ACT Leader David Seymour.

“The new tax will raise up to $81 million annually. The Government must reduce other taxes in order to offset the additional money hardworking Kiwis will pay.

“This Government’s commitment to helping struggling New Zealanders has been questionable at best:

A regional fuel tax that will cost the average household $160 a year - or four ‘Families Package’ payments.
Charter school closures that will hurt Maori and Pasifika kids;
Minimum wage and 90-day trial changes that will kill opportunities for young, disadvantaged New Zealanders;
Fees-free subsidies that will be paid for by non-graduates;
A bright-line test/capital gains tax that will be passed on to tenants.

“If Stuart Nash wants to avoid being accused of a tax grab, he must makes this change revenue neutral.

"ACT is calling on the Government to reduce other taxes to offset the additional costs New Zealanders will face as a result of this policy", says Mr Seymour.
