Seymour defends vegan freedom
The idea that an organisation that wishes to hire a person with similar ethical beliefs could be ‘discriminatory’ is a nonsense, says ACT Leader David Seymour.
Animal rights group SAFE has said it intends to hire a vegan media and communications advisor.
"Small business owners all over New Zealand are facing similar issues.
“They are the best judge of what their business needs. Do-gooders and nanny statists will try to impose their views, but most have never had the courage to start a business.
“Employers - many of whom have built their firms from scratch - should be allowed to hire whomever they want.
“Labour market flexibility will only worsen under the Government’s recently announced working group to look at labour laws. This is a return to the bad old days of the 1970s.
"When we tie the hands of firms, we impose additional costs on them, and that can only hurt consumers and workers”, says Mr Seymour.
